Why You Should Believe Hurricane Forecasters

Complacency and inaction are two of the tendencies we at VLES designs fight so hard to cure. Our mantra is Plan, Prepare and Practice so people are ready when an emergency occurs. Rarely are our calls to action heeded. But we’re not the only ones fighting the good fight to try to get people to heed the warnings. The NOAA is doing its best to educate the public too.

The last three years has seen significant improvements to early-warning hurricane models. And, as each hurricane occurs, the models improve with the information from the previous weather system making predictions more and more accurate. Unfortunately, through a lack of understanding or simple complacency, the NOAA predictions are not showing an improved public response to warnings. But there's always hope.
